Play Prep: The ultimate insider book group for theater lovers

Announcing a unique way to enjoy the theater!

What is the play prep series?

Scripts are literary templates for a thousand possibilities in our minds. What possibilities/insights are theatre professionals trained in uncovering? How can you evoke the script in this "theater of the mind" as a reader?

For each Play Prep series, you'll join Artistic Director Jeremy Wechsler for an extended look at a single contemporary work. We'll examine the play through the various lenses of performance, design, direction and scene analysis over three evenings of discussion. Bring your script and we'll provide the wine. Enjoy animated conversation with your fellow theater lovers and professional artists. Dip your toes in imagining scenery, in casting, scene analysis, lighting and the many other considerations that can inform and enrich our experience as readers and audience members.

June 28->July 12

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

by Jack Thorne
original story by J.K Rowling, John Tiffany and Jack Thorne

Jeremy says, "Oh yeah! You've read it and, unless you planned a lot better than I did (and have a private transcontinental jet), you aren't going to get to see it any time soon. I think there are some fascinating questions to ask about audience pre-conception, investment, design and production history of creative material, to say nothing of some crazy design and technical challenges we can explore. This should be a super fun kick off to our Play Prep series and a unique way to imagine a great day at the theater."

Please note: the structure and analysis of these discussions is oriented toward adults. If you have a 11-16 year old who is interested in this class, drop Jeremy an email.
