Scripts are literary templates for a thousand possibilities in our minds. What possibilities/insights are theatre professionals trained in uncovering? How can you evoke the script in this "theater of the mind" as a reader?
For each Play Prep series, you'll join Artistic Director Jeremy Wechsler for an extended look at a single contemporary work or author. We'll examine the work through the various lenses of performance, design, direction and scene analysis over three evenings of discussion. Bring your script and we'll provide the wine. Enjoy animated conversation with your fellow theater lovers and professional artists. Dip your toes in imagining scenery, casting, scene analysis, lighting and the many other considerations that can inform and enrich our experience as readers and audience members.
"It appears as though I've worked on more of Will Eno's plays than any director in the country, much to my bemusement. Will is one of America's most important contemporary playwrights, with a range of work that has made its mark on both Broadway and smaller theaters around the country. Will's unique ear for dialogue and interaction can simultaneously reflect our most trivial and deepest selves.
"Reading Eno's plays can present unexpected challenges to feel out the dramatic throughline, the poetry as well as the human reality. Join me for an overview of four key works by this Pulitzer nominee, from his earliest produced work to The Realistic Joneses, his Broadway debut (concurrently playing at Theater Wit) and see how simple and human his work can be."
Schedule: Sunday evenings. 2/24, 3/3 and 3/10 from 7pm-8:30pm
Cost: $95. Includes beverages (wine, beer, soda) and copies of the scripts.
